Customer Reviews

I have to disagree with Mr. Luter. I too have a house built in 2001 and it came with three Universal SS-790 alarms installed. I wanted to upgrade and I didn't order this SS-790 based on his review. However, I eventually decided to try them anyway, and I found that 1) the connectors fit the existing connector and 2) the unit mounted to the existing base plate just fine. The new unit has two little flaps on the outside of its mounting ring, but they don't interfere with the mounting since the mounting ring on the unit go outside the mounting ring on the base station. That's probably not clear but anyway all you have to do is unplug the old unit, line up the new unit, push up and slightly twist and it's mounted (just like the old unit). Very, very easy. So if you want to replace SS-790's, these should work. Mine lasted 10 years and still worked fine but I just decided to replace them as a precaution. Can't beat the price. That said, I don't think three is enough for my house and garage based on current fire standards so I have mounted some additional wireless interconnect photoelectric sensor units to compliment these ionization units.

Hi,
I broke the tabs that the base fastens the alarm to on one of my old ones, so I bought this replacement. It was easy to install. Just remember to turn off your breaker to your smoke alarms in your breaker box because I didn't at first and got a good jolt. Anyway If you are just replacing one of these there are three wires and you just connect them as the one that you took off. Anyway after I was done turned on the breaker and it worked. It comes with a 9v battery the base and alarm. Pretty good deal for a replacement.
